A PureRef alternative for Mac
PureRef runs on Mac, so this is not about a missing version. People look for an alternative on Mac because they have a lot of boards and want to search them, or because they want notes and tables on the same canvas. Maki has a Mac version for that.
In short: Maki is a reference board for macOS 11 and later with offline search, a Pinterest and browser extension, and reference mode. 30 days free, then $19 once for two computers.
What you get on Mac
- A universal .dmg that installs on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
- The same endless board as on Windows: images, notes, tables, arrows and frames.
- Search across every board by file name, notes, color and the text inside images, with no internet connection.
- Reference mode to keep a board on top while you work in another app.
Moving from PureRef
Maki doesn't import .pur files. Drag the image folders you used on your PureRef boards onto a Maki board and lay them out again. If you rely on Linux, stay with PureRef: Maki has no Linux version.
The licence covers both systems
One $19 licence works on up to two computers, Windows or Mac, so a Mac laptop and a Windows desktop can share it. To move it, choose Remove from this computer on the old machine first.
First launch
Maki isn't code-signed yet, so macOS may warn you the first time. The download page shows how to open it anyway.
